Why We Use Nano Brows, Not Microblading

If you're deciding between microblading and nano brows in Tucson, here's how we think about it, and why every brow at Sonthuy is a hand-mapped nano brow rather than traditional microblading.

A quick, plain-language comparison

Both shape and define the brows with pigment. The main difference is the tool and technique, which shapes the look and the appointment.

Traditional microblading

  • Hair-like strokes made with a handheld blade
  • Known for crisp, individual strokes
  • Technique, healing, and longevity vary by artist and skin type

Sonthuy nano brows

  • Soft definition placed with an ultra-fine digital needle
  • Powder, hair stroke, or combo finishes, mapped to your features
  • A gradual, buildable approach for a soft, natural look

Both are professional brow techniques used across the industry. Sonthuy specializes in nano brows and does not offer traditional microblading.

Why Sonthuy chooses nano brows

Our choice is about the control and finish we want for every brow, from mapping through healing.

Precise, controlled application

An ultra-fine digital needle places pigment with fine control, so shape and density are built gradually and intentionally.

Soft, natural-looking finish

Nano work is designed to settle into a soft, wearable result rather than a harsh or overly defined line.

Custom mapping for your features

Every brow begins with facial mapping, so shape, symmetry, and proportion are planned around your face before any pigment.

Considered pigment selection

Color is chosen for your skin tone and undertone, and built in layers so the healed result looks balanced and natural.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is nano brows the same as microblading?

Not quite. Both define the brows with pigment, but microblading uses a handheld blade to create hair-like strokes, while nano brows place pigment with an ultra-fine digital needle. Nano work can create powder, hair stroke, or combo finishes within one technique.

Does Sonthuy offer microblading?

No. Sonthuy specializes in nano brows and does not offer traditional microblading. Nano Powder, Nano Hair Stroke, Nano Combo, and Nano Correction / Cover-Up are our brow permanent makeup options.

Why does Sonthuy use nano brows instead of traditional microblading?

We prefer the fine control of a digital needle for mapping shape, building density gradually, and managing pigment, which helps us design a soft, natural-looking brow tailored to each client. Every brow still begins with consultation and facial mapping.

Are nano brows good for oily skin?

Skin type is one of the things that affects how any brow tattoo heals and wears. At your consultation your artist will look at your skin and recommend the finish most likely to suit it, and talk through what to expect. Results still vary from person to person.

How long do nano brows last?

Most results last about one to three years, depending on your skin, lifestyle, aftercare, and how your skin holds pigment. A periodic color boost keeps definition looking fresh, and results vary from person to person.

Where can I book nano brows in Tucson?

Nano brows are available as part of our permanent makeup menu at both Sonthuy Tucson studios, Brows & Lash on Thornydale and Hair & Skin on Silverbell. You can book at whichever location is most convenient for you.
